- Tristan Lecomte is a serial social entrepreneur, who founded an NGO in Nepal for rural Development in 1994 and Alter Eco, in 1998, now a leading organic and fair trade company. In 2008, he created PUR Projet, a collective that has now become an international social enterprise with about 100 employees. PUR Projet's mission is to regenerate ecosystems to increase the resilience of local communities and corporate value chains to climate change. His organization currently operates environmental and social projects across multiple agricultural, animal and plant value chains in over 50 countries. While still heading PUR Projet, Tristan founded in 2020 Second Life, to propose a concrete and turn-key solution for companies to address the challenge of plastic use and wastes. Tristan is an Ashoka Fellow, and was also awarded in 2010 as one of the "100 most influential people in the world" by the American magazine Time. In 2013, the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and the World Economic Forum in Davos named him Social Entrepreneur of the Year. He is the author of several manifesto books on fair trade and in 2015 published What if we went up the tree? The 100 benefits of the tree essential to humanity. Tristan lives in Thailand on a rice farm with his family, where he tests and implements agroecology and more sustainable agricultural practices.
